What skills are useful in your role?

The ability to talk to anyone and build and maintain professional relationships is crucial to the role of a broker. Active listening is just as important, because understanding exactly what a client needs allows you to provide the right solutions. Alongside this, negotiation and problem-solving skills help in finding the best outcomes.

What do you find most interesting about your sector?

I find the sheer variety of things that come through the most interesting. For instance, around 90% of the worlds trade is currently moved by sea so everything from Cars to Wheat requires some sort of Cargo insurance!
