For the first time since 2008, the majority of UK companies are expecting to create jobs over the next year.

A new report from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), co-commissioned by Accenture, surveyed 325 firms that collectively employ over one million workers.

It found that private sector workforces are expected to grow across the UK, with Yorkshire and Humberside and the East Midlands set to experience the greatest boost in employment.

The CBI singled out the graduate job market as particularly fortunate, with 33% of firms reporting plans to increase the number of graduate jobs next year. Far fewer (13%) declared that they would be cutting graduate jobs.

Katja Hall, CBI chief policy director, said of the findings: ‘We’re starting to see the recovery have an impact on business plans to hire, with more than half of firms boosting staff numbers next year and more opportunities for young people.’

Accenture is currently recruiting for graduate jobs, internships and industrial placements.
