The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has revealed that July retail sales were the highest in seven years, due to the recent heatwave.
Sales of barbecue food, beer and summer clothing increased as a result of the warm weather. Celebrating British success at sporting events, such as Murray’s win at Wimbledon, are also thought to have contributed to sales.
David McCorquodale, head of retail at KPMG, which compiled the figures, said: ‘July was a golden month for retail sales and marks a return to form for British retailers.’
