The EU’s new cyber security strategy and supporting directive will necessitate greater IT spending, as firms will be legally bound to comply with raised standards of IT security.
The recently published directive coincided with a new announcement by Acumin, which saw the recruitment specialist stressing the shortage of IT security skills.
Chris Batten, joint managing director of Acumin, commented on the industry-wide demand for various security skills, including security architecture, web application security and security programme management.
“But there is a huge lack of supply of people with web application security skills, such as web application security architects and penetration testers, where demand outstrips supply,” said Batten.
He called for more investment in graduate schemes, warning that the industry will fail to scale for the future without them.
