The latest Report on Jobs shows that demand for staff is at its highest point for nearly two years.

The report from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG demonstrates that the average salary has experienced the biggest spike for more than a year.

Tom Hadley, Director of Policy and Professional Services, REC says: ‘The war for talent has begun.’

He continues: ‘This is good news for workers but also highlights the need to address the current “skills disconnect” which presents a major barrier to growth in key sectors of our economy.’

Mr Hadley emphasises that skills shortages in the IT and engineering sectors are driving competition for qualified staff, with employers having to offer more attractive salaries as a result.
