The study findings suggest that the opportunity for government to use big data to improve public services may be prevented by those it is looking to help, the general public.
Report findings revealed that 31% of citizens thought it was a bad idea for governments to collect and store data about them and share it between other government departments, with the number rising to 34% who thought it was a very bad idea. Only 6% said it was a very good idea.
There was an increase in those who felt that medical data should be held on a central computer rather than with GP’s or hospitals. However, at only 13% this figure is low compared to to 26% and 29% who felt the idea was bad or very bad.
