Academics at Surrey University have received a £35 million grant from mobile operators, infrastructure providers and the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund to fund research into 5G.

Experts believe 5G will be in place by 2020 and will be more economic that its predecessor. The cost of electricity to run 4G networks is currently very high.
